Overall I was thoroughly disappointed and feel I'm being generous giving the NEW Eckl's 2 stars...
Classic family restaurant. Great portion sizes and overall yummy food. The coleslaw and fries were excellent! Friendly service and reasonable prices.
The service was very poor. Was not crowded and saw several other servers in the area. It took 20 minutes just to get drinks and upcharges were not mentioned until I saw them on the bill. Food was average at best and for the price you should go somewhere else. Was excited to try this place and was extremely disappointed when leaving. I will not be going back.
We stopped in tonite for a beef on week, fries, and a cup lobster bisque... All 3 items were a disappointment. The beef was noticeably of lower quality than what Dale Eckl used to buy and the roll for the sandwich was not heated. The French fries came to the table lukewarm and it was clear that the Heinz ketchup bottle had been refilled or watered down b/c it slopped out the bottle. The last item was passable but definitely of a much lower quality than the Eckl's standard....
I have been going to Eckl's all my life and I must say that since the new owners took over the quality of the food has taken a nose dive..
This is the third time we've visited since the restaurant reopened. Usually we give a restaurant 2 chances, but having been one of our favorites before new ownership, we gave it one more try. The speciality is roast beef sandwiches. We've had four sandwiches and all had grisly meat that pulled out of the sandwich when bitten into. This never occurred before. They are unfortunately off our dinner circuit. The only thing that improved over the 3 visits were the French fries. They were now almost like the old.
The service was excellent. The beef on weck was very good. It could have had just a bit more meat on it but it was good. The NY cheesecake was very good as well. That portion was standard. This is our second time there and we were more than pleased the first time. It is a 200+ year old building and has a quaint charm. Dimly lit, it sets the mood, lighted floral ties on the curtains and white table cloths with candles on the tables. We will be back.
